I really liked the room and also the restaurant. The room is well furnished, with a Nespresso coffee machine and a water boiler. They had complimentary water bottles. Also the toilet is separate from the bathroom which I appreciate. The food at the restaurant is of very good quality and they accommodated my special needs. The SPA is also very nice and with professional staff.

The Great Gatsby Houghton in Johannesburg provides accommodations with a garden, barbecue facilities, and a shared lounge. With pool views, this accommodation provides a swimming pool. Great location - closed to everything yet very peaceful -, impressive interiors and impeccable hospitality! You get to ask yourself if it is really worth it to leave the Gatsby and visit the city, because spending time enjoying the beautiful guesthouse´s spaces is in itself a great experience. Awesome breakfast as well, with the opportunity to meet other guests at a common table (as I did) or to enjoy it in a private space, according to your preferences. The icing on the cake was spending some time chatting with Gina, super friendly and helpful owner, and enjoying a love overload from the cutest little and well-behaved dog, Bella.

They kindly let me hang out in the house and garden while I was waiting to go the airport.

Located in Houghton, The Residence is a boutique hotel that offers spacious suites with a spa bath, and a balcony overlooking the garden, the tennis court or the outdoor pool. We loved the design of this hotel. It was like Ethan Allen had had a hand in decorating the public spaces - it was so perfectly boho British Colonial. We loved the cozy bar and the lush plantings on the grounds of the hotel. Also loved the breezeway with the coy pond on the way to the bar and restaurant. Our room was very comfortable. The staff was laid back while still being professional. We have stayed in many places in South Africa that were super-duper deluxe. We liked that The Residence felt more homey and comfortable without being over the top.
